This was a beautiful article. Whenever I read your blog, I want to write you this nine-page comment (this time, about creepy Ecuadoran guys and Quáker and feeling just as alienated from casual tourists as you do from your host culture).
I actually have a good friend in Guayaquil. He's an architect, safely married and moderately sane, if you're looking for interesting people to hang out with and if that's not too creepy.
